In today’s fast-paced culture, it’s easy to keep pushing ahead, tackling the next item on the list. However, as 2023 winds down, I would like to take a few moments to slow down, reflect, and celebrate the fourth year Legacy Planning & Probate has had in serving our clients and the instances of giving back to our community.
This Spring I continued my appearances at a few more Mothers of Preschooler meetings, sharing the answers to frequently asked questions in a “Myth or Fact” style presentation of Estate Planning. I began speaking at these MOPS meetings in the Fall of 2022 and was honored to be asked back to other groups in the Denver metro. It was after these events that I noticed a theme in questions MOPS moms asked and decided to host community events to address these. It was a common concern to create an Estate Plan that aged well and that saw to the planned care for their children.
I’ve really enjoyed being able to volunteer at the “Wills for Heroes - Colorado” event. I had such a wonderful experience volunteering in February and in October. I’m appreciative of Ballard Spahr LLP for the hard work in putting together this semi-annual program. Thank you to the heroes who sacrifice so much for us. Visit http://www.willsforheroes.org/ to learn more about the country-wide program and use their “program locator page” to find upcoming events in your area!
I kicked off the busy Fall season in September with an appearance on a podcast called “Community Chat: Life-Law-Health” with Kitlin Nares, ESQ. This podcast, sponsored by Hagen & Nares PLLC, sits down with various local professionals to answer questions about their field. I was excited to discuss my passion regarding popular Estate Planning vehicles and how motherhood has shaped my approach to client goals. If you’d like to listen to excerpts of a few highlights from the interview, please visit our Instagram page (@legacyplanningandprobate) and view the highlights under the “FAQ” tab for the saved tidbits!
In October we hosted a “Wine and Wills” event at Littleton Learning Labs in downtown Littleton. Attendees expanded their understanding of Estate Planning while elevating their wine knowledge! I answered the question, “Which ages better? Wine or Wills?”. Much like investing in quality wine, I urged attendees to avoid future headache and regret by investing in their future by creating a quality estate plan. I gave a brief presentation on Wills. Following the presentation, I enjoyed answering questions during a wine tasting led by a wine instructor from Neighborhood Wine & Spirits.
This first community event was such a success that we plan to host a “Books with Beneficiaries” community event in February 2024 at First Star to the Right Bookstore in Denver! This community event will focus on the unique Estate Planning vehicles for those with minor children.
I am proud of the work we are doing at Legacy Planning and Probate, and I am excited for all that lies ahead in 2024. Our Spring community event is sure to be beneficial. We have a series on Medical Power Attorney decision making planned to launch in the first quarter, as well. I have a passion for helping families prepare for their legacies and hope to do more speaking engagements in the coming year. Please reach out if you know of a group or an event that could benefit from an Estate Planning presentation laid out in simple terms, encouraging listeners to “set it and forget it”, so they can live life with one less worry.
In 2024 it still stands true: Planning for tomorrow, though sometimes an uncomfortable topic, is best done today.
